Czech me out in Prague

On Thursday I headed to Prague for the weekend.  I landed at Prague at 8:00 pm and that is when our adventures began.  We all headed to the atm to take out money.  Currency is completely different.  $1 = 18 Kc so we all took out 2,000 Kc and felt super rich.  Only problem was we didn't have small enough bills to buy transportation to the hostel.  I felt like we were trapped at the airport.  We ended up getting dinner there since we were super hungry and got small change to buy a bus ticket.  We took a bus to a metro station but had no idea where the hostel was.  We were 6 ill-prepared girls.  Luckily for 3g internet I was able to locate the hostel on a map and found the closest tube stop.  We had been advised to count the number of stops because they don't let you know where you are.  We were to get off at the second stop.  But it was getting late at night and we were starting to get goofy so we forgot to keep track of stops.  We were either at the 1st or 2nd stop but didn't know for sure.  I hectically asked which stop we were at but they didn't speak english so I pointed.  We in fact were at the right stop so at the last minute we jumped off the metro.  We almost all didn't make it off as the doors were closing.  That was an exciting start to our trip.  We made it to our hostel and we were all shocked by how nice it was.  It felt like a hotel turned into a hostel so I was very happy to be staying there for a weekend.

On Friday we started the day at Bohemia Bagel.  A very good bagel shop.  I got french bagel toast. Yummy!  After breakfast we went to the John Lennon wall and took pictures around there.

Then we met up with the boys, Eric and Mike, who had just arrived.  We went on a 2 hour walking tour.  The weather was nice that day so I didn't mind walking for 2 hours, plus we had a very funny and enthusiastic tour guide who loved talking about the architecture and history of Prague.  The tour started in Old Town Square, saw the Jewish Quarter, and ended in New Town

{Astronomical Clock Tower}

{Tyn Cathedral in Old Town Square; Gothic Style; Right tower is in fact larger than the left tower}

{Prague Castle- The biggest castle- The castle is the whole background of the picture; not just the building that looks like a castle.  That is the Cathedral inside the castle.  The castle consists of buildings from the left of the picture to right.  This is also my favorite picture}

{Charles Bridge}

{Me and the boys on Charles Bridge}

{Pinkas Synagogue- Contains drawings from children in the Holocaust and the walls are lined with names of victims}

{Spanish Synagogue- Looks like a mosque because the Muslims were nice to the Jews so they dedicated and built this synagogue in moors style- exhibitions of life for Czech Jewish before, during, and after WWII}

{Old-New Synagogue- Oldest still active synagogue- built with stones from the temple in Jerusalem}

{Old Cemetary (couldn't take any photos) - Only place Jews were allowed to be buried.  There are 12,000 tomb stones but over 100,000 bodies buried on top of each other up to 10 layers deep.}

{Wenceslas Square- Modern center; where communism went down}
